Knit Look Sweater Crochet Pattern

Today I’m happy to share my newest crochet pattern! I wanted to design a “knit look” sweater crochet pattern for children and adults: The Strata Sweater.

I named it the Strata Sweater because I’m always inspired by nature, and the rows of knit look stitches in this sweater reminded me of the strata layers in The Grand Canyon and other places where rock layers can be found.

This crochet pattern isn’t just for kids; the pattern includes 11 sizes from kids 4 to women’s 4X.

I just love the unique look of the crochet stitches in this pattern.  I included side slits and extra wide ribbed cuffs for a modern look.

The worsted weight yarn works up fairly quickly, always a plus in my book. And, while you can use any worsted yarn for this sweater, cotton yarn gives great stitch definition for showing off the knit look.  I used Color Mist from Knit Picks.

One of the reasons that I wanted to design sweater patterns was because I wanted to challenge myself to learn new things. This sweater challenged me because I was forced to find a solution to a problem.

Most of the time when you’re crocheting in the round, you will do one of two things: join with a slip stitch and chain one (or two or more) or crochet in a spiral. Well, neither of those techniques worked well for this pattern. Thankfully, I found the solution in a great crochet book!

In the video below, I explain the BEST way to create a seam when crocheting a sweater in the round.

You may have heard of hdc in the third loop only, but how about sc in the third loop? I love this stitch pattern! And I couldn’t find an abbreviation for it, so I made up my own: sc3lo.

In this video, I explain how do the sc3lo and the details of creating the straight seam.

I hope you enjoy this new knit look sweater crochet pattern! I can’t wait to see what you make. Grab your yarn and your pattern and have some fun!
